Achieve Straighter, Healthier Teeth
Compared to traditional metal braces, Invisalign® clear aligners are a faster, more comfortable, and more reliable way to achieve straighter teeth. But did you know that they also benefit your oral health in additional ways?
Read on to learn more about the many oral health advantages of straightening your smile with Invisalign at our Miami office.
Stronger Teeth
When teeth are crooked, they form nooks that are difficult to clean and subsequently invite bacteria that can cause cavities and tooth loss. Straightening your teeth can correct these nooks, helping to prevent tooth decay while alleviating a number of dental issues caused by teeth misalignment, such as:
- Jaw stress
- Trauma to the jaw bone and joints
- Chipping or cracking
- Grinding (bruxism)
- Abnormal or uneven wear on teeth
Healthier Gums
When teeth are crooked or misaligned, the fit between your gums and teeth can become loose, creating a gap where food particles can collect. The accumulation of food particles breeds bacteria, increasing your chances of developing gum disease or tooth decay. Overcrowded teeth can also cause irritation and swelling in the gums, which could lead to gum disease.
Invisalign can help eliminate the possibility of bacteria gathering between gaps or crevices caused by alignment issues, by gradually shifting your teeth into their proper positions. Once your teeth are straightened, the health of your gums can begin to improve.
A Cleaner Mouth
With Invisalign, patients can remove their aligners for thorough brushing and flossing, which is not always possible with traditional metal braces. Braces are notorious for trapping food particles in their metal brackets. This means that extreme care has to be taken when cleaning them, or you risk bacteria gathering in your braces and causing oral health issues.
Invisalign clear aligners are removed before eating, thereby eliminating this dental hygiene problem. Reducing the likelihood of oral bacteria gathering on your aligner trays also lessens the chances of mouth sores, bad breath, and tooth loss.
Frequently Asked Questions
Am I too old for Invisalign?
You’re never too old for Invisalign. While most people think of braces as being for children and teenagers, the Invisalign treatment has no upper age limit. Though adult teeth are more securely in place, they can still be moved to straighten your smile.
Adult treatment with Invisalign is often successful because you’re more likely to wear your aligners responsibly. Though your treatment can take a little longer than a teenager’s Invisalign treatment, Dr. Grussmark will make sure you get the smile you deserve.
Will Invisalign give me a lisp?
When you begin Invisalign treatment, you’ll have to get used to wearing the aligners 20 to 22 hours a day. During this time, you may speak a little differently. Most people get used to the feeling of aligners over their teeth within a few days.
After you get used to wearing your aligners, you’ll be able to speak normally. If you’re concerned about your speech, we recommend practicing reading out loud or speaking to friends and family to get used to speaking with your new aligners.
Is Invisalign a permanent solution for straighter teeth?
Invisalign clear aligners can help you achieve a straighter smile that can last a lifetime if you follow Dr. Grussmark’s instructions. Caring for your aligners is essential to their longevity and your treatment plan. As long as you take proper care of your aligners, you’ll have permanently straight teeth in half the time of traditional braces.
